Downtown Vancouver reads differently depending on the day — a weekday morning near Esther Short Park looks almost nothing like a Saturday when the farmers market is running.
Here's what day-to-day life actually looks like in Vancouver's most walkable neighborhood.

Local Life in Downtown Vancouver
Because condos make up the large majority of housing downtown, daily life here leans walkable rather than yard-centered — errands, meals and time outdoors all happen within a short walk rather than a drive.
Public art and breweries are part of the everyday backdrop, within walking distance for most residents rather than a special occasion.
The Waterfront district, a major redevelopment south of Esther Short Park, has added new retail and open space along the Columbia River, giving the neighborhood more to walk to than it had a few years ago.
Parks, Trails & Things to Do Near Downtown Vancouver
Esther Short Park anchors the neighborhood — 5 acres, the oldest public park in the Pacific Northwest, and home to a year-round farmers market and community events.
The Waterfront district adds additional open space along the Columbia River, within walking distance of the park.
Getting Around
I-5 access is immediate from downtown, with a short bridge crossing to Portland — bridge traffic in particular can turn a quick trip into a long one, so it's worth checking at the hours you'd actually cross.
None of this comes through in a floor plan — the walk to the farmers market, the pace of a weekday evening downtown. Spending time in the neighborhood at different hours tends to show whether that pace actually fits.

Don't see the right home? Inventory in individual neighborhoods can be limited — nearby neighborhoods with similar homes, locations and amenities are often worth a look too.
